"DIRTY THURSDAY!!!"
LONG LIVE DIRTY THURSDAY
how can you guys be so sure of the second ascent of head gasket, much less all the other famous problems that you guys claim the 2nd, 3rd, etc. ascents of? this past bouldering season the knob was host to many, many climbers, some of which were very strong boulderers.
Mr Anonymous,
Nearly all of the problems listed here were covered in large amounts of lichen/moss/down trees. To help gain a wide vantage point on the history of the area (I myself have climbed here for 10+ years) I talked with other climbers who have frequented the Knob: J Shultis, P Mothena, T Allen, E Hand, M Behrens, J Glassberg, D Tucker, T McDaniel. After talking with these folks I feel, within reason, what has been claimed were done so in good faith. If have a great long forgotten line to add, or know of a problem that was miss-named, then by all means speak up.
As for HG, if you FA'd it, then awesome find... its a sweet problem. As far as I can tell from the guide it hadn't been done, nor could anyone else tell me anything about it.
I feel that you may have missed the point of DS. There is a lot of great rock in VA and its point is to help keep folks here psyched and in the know of their own backyard. If have some bit of knowledge to add then lemmie know or head out with us sometime.
hope you enjoy what you find here
